What is Minecraft Realms, exactly? Minecraft Realms can be described as server hosting that Mojang (creators) of Minecraft has set up in order to allow family and friends to play in the same world.
Minecraft Realms pros:
Minecraft Realms is packed with great features that make it easy to use. First off, to start a survival world, all you have to do is click like 3 buttons and then you are set to play! Realms allows you to play from a few selected Minigames. It takes just a few clicks of your mouse and you can be playing with your friends. Another feature that is very useful is the ability to automatically back up your world. This could be useful if you fall into lava or someone griefs your house. You can also edit the Realm's name and description. One button allows you to see how much time you still have on your server before your subscription ends. Realms can be used in a few clicks.
Minecraft Realms Cons
While there are many nice things about Minecraft Realms, there are also many negatives. There is no world editing. You dont get to choose super-flat, extra-biomes, or anything. It just makes it easy to navigate a normal Minecraft world. While you can use commands on your world, command blocks are not yet allowed, so the making of server management machines cannot be done. Minecraft Realms also has a problem with players. You can only invite 20 players to your world. However, you can have only 10 players on your world at a time. I like the minigame map, but they could use more. They currently have 5 minigames. These minigames can be quite boring, but they are very entertaining. My friends and I would be entertained for hours if we had a wide variety of minigames. Price is another problem, I think. While 13 dollars (8 euros) may not seem like a lot, it is a good amount more than what minecraft server hosts offer. Realms does not have some of the features that make Minecraft more fun.
Overview: Realms is great if you are looking for a simple world to share with your friends. If you want to host a large server or make money off it, it is NOT recommended. It is also very nice if you aren't very good with servers because allows you to easliy change things with just the click of a few buttons. Realms isn’t the right place for you if you want a large server.
